Navy Collects Eighth-Consecutive Patriot League Presidents’ Cup

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Navy collected its eighth-consecutive Patriot League Presidents’ Cup, claiming nine League championships during the 2021-22 academic year to sit atop the overall standings. The Mids finished first in the women’s standings, while Army West Point claimed the men’s title for the third straight season.
 
Navy’s current streak of eight-consecutive overall titles is the most in Patriot League Presidents’ Cup history, surpassing Bucknell’s streak of seven-straight titles from 1998 to 2004.
 
The Midshipmen compiled 156.25 points, winning League titles in men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, men’s and women’s indoor track and field, men’s and women’s outdoor track and field and men’s tennis. Army West Point finished second with 143.5 points after capturing the baseball and women’s tennis crowns. Boston University ranked third overall with 135 points, claiming League championships in men’s lacrosse, women’s golf and women’s rowing. Lehigh, the Patriot League softball champion, finished fourth with 128.25 points, while Bucknell, winner of the women’s soccer title, finished fifth with 120.25 points.
 
Loyola Maryland earned its third-straight women’s lacrosse championship, second-consecutive men’s golf title and the men’s soccer crown to place sixth in the overall standings with 89.75 points. Colgate (76.25), the two-time defending men’s basketball and volleyball champion, three-time defending football champion Holy Cross (76), Lafayette (75.25) and field hockey and women’s basketball champion American (60) complete the overall standings among the full-member institutions.
 
Army West Point clinched the men’s title for the fourth time since the 2016-17 season with 72.75 points, edging the Midshipmen, who finished second with 70.5 points. Lehigh (60.75), Boston University (51.5) and Bucknell (47.25) made up the top five. Loyola Maryland (44.5), Lafayette (39), Holy Cross (37.25), Colgate (33.75) and American (21) round out the men’s standings.
 
Navy ranked atop the women’s standings for the first time since 2017-18, finishing with 85.75 points, with two-time defending women’s Presidents’ Cup top-finisher Boston University finishing second with 83.5 points. Bucknell accumulated 73 points to finish in the top three for the 30th time in the 31-year history of the Presidents’ Cup. Army West Point (70.75) and Lehigh (67.5) ranked fourth and fifth, respectively, while Loyola Maryland (45.25), Colgate (42.5), American (39), Holy Cross (38.75) and Lafayette (36.25) finalized the 2021-22 women’s Presidents’ Cup competition.
 
The Patriot League Presidents’ Cup is awarded to the member institution with the highest cumulative sports point total for their Patriot League standings in sponsored men’s and women’s sports. Points are awarded based upon a combination of an institution’s regular-season and tournament finishes in each sport.
 
In the sport of football points are awarded based upon the final regular-season standings. If there is no regular-season competition and the champion is determined by a Patriot League Championship, points are awarded based on the final championship standings. If all teams compete in the Patriot League Championship and there is a regular-season competition, points are awarded based on an average of final regular-season standings and tournament finish. If all teams do not participate in the Patriot League Championship and there is a regular-season competition, points are awarded based upon an average of final season standings and tournament finish. For those teams not participating in the Championship, the final regular-season standings will be utilized.
 
Bucknell leads all programs with 18 overall Patriot League Presidents’ Cup titles, with Navy second with nine and Army West Point with four trophies. The three schools are the only winners of the overall title in League history.
